AgeOptions Meal Box Kits Video

The AgeOptions Meal Box Kits program video advocates for the federal and state governments to consider flexibility in the use of nutrition funding. Meal Box Kits are delivered weekly to eligible older adults of Suburban Cook County, Illinois who can prepare their own meals or have a homecare worker or caretaker who cooks for them. Meal Box Kits are not a replacement for congregate and home-delivered meals. They meet a niche cohort of older adults who are challenged with shopping, transportation, limited or no supports, but have the ability and desire to prepare their meals. The Meal Box Kits offer cost savings as unprepared food is less costly than prepared foods. The meals are nutritious and contribute to a person’s well-being. Each meal provides 1/3 of daily nutrition. The Meal Box Kits include menus and recipes. At this time, our Meal Box Kits meet a variety of food preferences with Black/African American, Latin/Hispanic, Kosher, and general, nonethnic cuisines available. Consumption of healthy food is of as much value to older adults as is medicine. The program is economical, of value to the recipient, and a unique supplement to the current nutritional funding landscape.
